Former UPDF army commander and leader of the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT), Gen. Mugisha Muntu, has warned that many African countries are heading for serious trouble if they do not deal with deep-rooted problems that have been ignored for years.
Speaking during an interview on NBS Television, Muntu said,
“We are sitting on a time bomb. Quite a number of African countries, including Uganda, are dealing with foundational issues. For a long time, these issues have been masked, but now they are rising.”
He was referring to long-standing problems like corruption, poor leadership, weak institutions, and lack of accountability.
According to Muntu, these problems have been hidden or ignored for years, but now they are starting to cause big problems that threaten the peace and development of the continent.
Muntu added that without proper action, Africa will continue to face crisis after crisis.
“Every time we don’t deal with foundational issues, you are bound to reach a crisis point,” he said.
He believes that ignoring these matters will only lead to more instability and suffering for ordinary people.
He also called on leaders and citizens to be brave enough to face these challenges head-on.
He said it is time for African countries to stop blaming the past and start creating systems that are strong, fair, and able to deliver justice and development.
“This continent has great potential. But we must stop pretending. We need systems that work. We need leaders who put the people first. If we keep doing things the same way, we will keep falling into the same traps,” Muntu said.
His words come at a time when many African countries are struggling with political tension, poverty, youth unemployment, and insecurity.
In countries like Sudan, Ethiopia, and even parts of the Democratic Republic of Congo, unrest has already erupted.
