PHOTOS; Kampala Law Student Injured After Portraying Jesus During Good Friday Procession

A second-year law student at Kampala International University, Dennis Zziwa, was injured on Good Friday after taking part in a religious drama at Our Lady of Africa Church.

Zziwa was among the Christians who joined the annual “Way of the Cross” walk, an important Easter tradition where believers remember the suffering and death of Jesus Christ.

During the event, he played the role of Jesus, acting out the moments when Jesus was arrested, beaten, and later taken to be crucified.

The “Way of the Cross” procession is normally done through prayers, songs, and short performances. Many churches organize it every year to help Christians reflect on the sacrifice of Jesus and the meaning of salvation.

At Our Lady of Africa Church, the event attracted many worshippers who came to witness the reenactment and participate in prayer.

However, the activity took an unexpected turn when Zziwa suffered injuries during the acting. Reports indicate that the beatings involved in the drama caused him physical harm, leaving him in pain and requiring urgent medical attention.

Red Cross staff who were present at the church quickly responded and gave him first aid. They treated his injuries at the scene before he was taken for further care.

Due to the seriousness of his condition, he was later transferred to Lamone Health Center in Luzira for additional treatment.

The incident has raised questions among some members of the public about the safety of religious reenactments.

While many people admire the commitment shown by those who take part in such events, others believe churches should ensure that actors are protected from harm.

Some Christians also said the injury should serve as a reminder that the suffering of Jesus was real and painful, and should not be taken lightly. Others called on church leaders to set clear rules so that no participant is seriously hurt in future processions.
