Hon. David Lukyamuzi, a Member of Parliament from the National Unity Platform (NUP), has urged opposition leaders, particularly NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi, better known as Bobi Wine, to take proactive steps in demanding their votes after 2026 Ugandan elections.
Lukyamuzi, who has been vocal in pushing for electoral reforms, challenged the opposition to shift from merely complaining about rigging allegations to actively proving the claims by ensuring the protection of their votes at every stage of the election process.
"If our votes are truly always rigged, now is the time to prove it. By participating in the election, there should be no confusion—let’s protect what’s ours,” Lukyamuzi declared in a recent statement.
His call comes at a crucial time after Uganda's 2026 elections, with accusations of electoral fraud hanging over the process for years.
Over the years, Bobi Wine and other opposition leaders have consistently accused President Yoweri Museveni’s government of manipulating elections to secure his stay in power.
While the NUP has strongly criticized the electoral system, Lukyamuzi's comments highlight the need for a shift in strategy.
He emphasized that complaining about rigged elections would no longer suffice and that the opposition must take concrete actions to protect their votes.
Lukyamuzi’s words have sparked a conversation within the opposition, with many seeing it as an invitation for unity and more strategic preparation, while others view it as a challenge to the longstanding claims of election malpractice.
His statement is a call for the opposition to focus on proactive measures, including mobilizing voters at polling stations, implementing legal oversight, and ensuring transparency at all levels of the election process.
